Mercy Aigbe (born January 1st, 1978) is an award-winning Nigerian actress, filmmaker, brand influencer, movie director and businesswoman from Edo State, born into a family of five. She was born to Pa Aigbe and Mrs. Abisola Grace Owodunni. She hails from Benin City, the capital of Edo State. She is the second child in a family of five. She attended Maryland Comprehensive Secondary School Ikeja, Lagos. She is an alumnus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, where she received her OND in Financial Studies and then proceeded to the University of Lagos where she bagged a degree in Theatre Arts.
Growing up, Mercy’s father was very strict which posed a big problem for young Mercy whose dream was to become an actress. It, however, did not stop her from deviating from her dreams.
Although Mercy always had a passion for acting, her father had wanted her to become an accountant for her good knowledge of Math and science subjects. Her father always insisted that none of his children should be actors, and was devastated when she decided to study Theatre Arts. Mercy Aigbe said she had to beg and appease him with a goat in order to get his approval on her acting career.
Still, in the need to be in the good books of her father, she got a marketing job at a bank after her graduation. However, her passion was still in acting. This led her to resign even though she had a good job that paid well. She started acting in soap operas before going into Yoruba movies.
Mercy Aigbe made her acting debut in 2006, in a film titled Ara. Her magnificent role in the movie earned the attention of many producers, ushering her into a whole new acting level.

Mercy Aigbe Family, Relationship
In 2013, Mercy Aigbe got married to a Nigerian hotelier, Lanre Gentry and has two children (Juwon Gentry and Michelle Aigbe) and three stepdaughters. In 2017, their marriage crashed after she shared photos of herself allegedly being assaulted by her husband. She consequently separated from her husband due to claims of domestic violence and started a campaign against it.
Mercy Aigbe has remained unmarried ever since separating from her husband.
Mercy Aigbe is not new to controversies. As a fashionista and someone whose fashion sense is unique, Mercy has been accused of flaunting clothes that never belonged to her. In 2017, she was called out by an Edo bride who shared the same fashion designer with Mercy. In June 2018, Mercy Aigbe reportedly bought a house to valued at N200 million. After the news went viral, it was rumoured that former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, who was reportedly in a romantic relationship with the actress bought her the property. Mercy never denied the accusation until she flew abroad for a seminar where she debunked the rumour. The former governor, however, never came out to publicly deny the accusation.
