Peruzzi is undoubtedly a fast-rising musician and a popular name in the Nigerian music industry. He has and keeps enjoying the accolades and recognition, largely for his hit singles, ‘Mata‘ Tatashe‘ and ‘Majesty‘. We reckon it won’t take long before he breaks even and s for the international stage such as the likes of Davido and Wizkid if he continues on this path of focus.

The budding musician, prior to the release of his single ‘Majesty‘, off his Heartwork EP, featured 2018 Big Brother Naija runner up Cee-c. Prior to the release of Majesty, the singer had been maligned by many social media users in Nigeria who claimed the singer only shines on featured songs. The single, however, proved his doubters wrong, making them believe the artiste has some magic up his sleeves.

Tobechukwu Victor Okoh (born 5 December 1989), also known as Peruzzi is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, stage performer, and recording artiste signed to Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) record label, owned by David Adeleke, popularly referred to as Davido. Peruzzi is of Igbo ethnicity, from Imo State, born in Lagos, South-Western Nigeria. He is an Urban Afro Vibe and recording artiste who started singing at the age of 7. He was formerly called TC Peruzzi and is said to be the cousin of Davido’s wife, Chioma Avril Rowland.

Peruzzi attended Lerato primary school, Egbeda and command secondary school, Ikeja for his primary and secondary education respectively before studying Medicine and surgery at Odessa National University, Ukraine.

He left his medical school to pursue a career in music which at first didn’t go well with his parents until after a couple of family meetings before they were convinced to allow him to follow his interest in music.

Career

He got his first studio session in 2007 and was previously signed to GoldenBoy Entertainment. TC Peruzzi as he was formerly called came to limelight with the single “For Your Pocket” featuring LK Kuddy as produced by Speroach Beatz in July 2017.

His talent and unique voice caught the attention of Davido and was immediately signed in November 2017 into Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), the label already home to the likes of Mayorkun and Dremo and Davido himself.

Ever since Peruzzi rose to fame he has been churning out hit singles back to back from Mata to Tatashe and ‘Majesty’, a 2018 single off his Heartwork EP featured 2018 Big Brother Naija runner up Cee-c.

With his ability to flow with just any beat, Peruzzi vibes are second to none as he has been the mastermind of DMW’s hit singles such as Aje and Mind. Prior to the release of Majesty, the singer had been maligned by many social media users in Nigeria who claimed the singer only shines on featured songs. He featured on Tu-Face’s hit song “Amaka”.

Peruzzi possesses a unique style of music he christened ‘UrbanAfro Vibe’. It is inspired by his versatility as an artiste. This means, if this becomes a thing, he is the first Nigerian UrbanAfro Vibe Artiste and the only of his kind.

Scandals

Despite being fairly new to the music industry, Peruzzi has attracted some negative backlashes and trended for the wrong reasons. Peruzzi reportedly attacked a Nigerian social media influencer named Pamilerin in June 2019 for a comment the media influencer made in June, same year over Headies ‘Next Rated Award’ which had Teniola Apata, aka Teni and Peruzzi as nominees. Teni eventually won the category but a bitter Peruzzi patiently waited and reportedly attacked Pamilerin at a social function in Port Harcourt with the aid of his bouncers. According to Pamilerin:

What did I go to Bayelsa for, I had no idea I was going to come back to Lagos with a mini swollen eyes, all thanks to your fav for blessing me with that. I would have stayed in my Lagos and enjoy the traffic in peace.

After the event it was time to go back to Lagos and face traffic, I got into the bus that was taking us to PortHarcourt from Bayelsa, next thing I heard was, come down here, then I felt heavy hand pull me down.

All I could hear was, are you AYE(cult), I could not respond because I was lost in thought. What is happening I said to myself. Then this guy dragged me where Peruzzi was standing. Ohh, it’s you, I said to myself.

Next thing, your super star Peruzzi pulled me up with the help of his bouncer holding my hands, the next thing I heard was boom. Is that from THOR I said to myself. He started screaming, don’t you ever tweet about me again, you are mad, who do you think you are.

This continued to about 20 minutes, everyone around was shocked and dumbfounded, he said how on earth will I compare him with Teni ?He said he does not care, but this is you abusing me after 6 months.

Bearing in mind that I tweeted on the 6th January, 2019. When the whole comparison between himself and Teni surfaced online. I simply asked our gentleman not to compare himself that Teni has put in lot of work, so she deserved to be given her moment and credit.

Although Peruzzi apologized afterward, he wasn’t spared by Nigerians who thought his excesses needed to be tamed.

In February 2019, Peruzzi was caught in a web of a scandal involving DMW boss, Davido, his hypeman, SpecialSpesh, and his cousin, Chioma. The scandal was blown by self-acclaimed investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo who accused Chioma of sleeping around with other men whenever she went to the UK on her own and Peruzzi being the cousin knows about it. Kemi’s chat further exposed a chat screenshot of Specialspesh claiming Peruzzi was in the know about Chioma’s infidelity.

Although nothing was heard of the issue, it was believed that Davido and his team probed the allegation.
