Ramsey Nouah Biography
Ramsey Nouah (born Ramsey Tokunbo Nouah Jr.; 19 December 1970) is a Nigerian actor and director born in Edo State to an Israeli father and a Yoruba mother who hails from Owo, Ondo State. He grew up in Surulere, Lagos, where he attended Atara Primary School and Community Grammar School. He obtained a diploma in mass communications at the University of Lagos, after which he pursued a career in acting. He won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role in 2010.
Career
Ramsey Nouah’s acting career kicked off when he starred in the Nigerian TV soap opera Fortunes. He has since appeared in numerous films starring as the lead role and has been called “Lover-Boy” for his numerous roles in romantic films. In 2010 Nouah won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in The Figurine (Araromire)
He got a push to venture into acting from a friend, while initially considering a career in music when he was 20 years old. He began auditioning for TV shows and at first try, he won the role of Jeff in the hit TV show, Fortunes, which ran from 1993 to 1994.
Already established as an actor, 1996 saw Ramsey Nouah making his major feature film debut in the heartily-embraced, “Silent Night”, but before then, he had worked in a few Nigerian home videos which never made it out due to issues centering mostly around a lack of appropriate funds.
He then took on numerous roles in romantic movies and quickly got the persistent label of “Lover Boy” by which some fans still refer to him. 2004 saw him in the movie, “Dangerous Twins” a first of its kind in Nollywood, where one actor was able to embody two different characters. Ramsey Nouah took on the roles of both good and bad twin – Taiye and Kehinde, and he executed the roles capably.
The roles seemed to portray to the industry at large his ability to transcend beyond the box of the “Lover Boy” image that he had been comfortably assigned. Future projects saw him extend his acting chops to cover different genres and before long, he became a household name.
For more recent offerings of Ramsey Nouah to the world of film, no need to search farther than the record-breaking Nigerian comedy, 30 days in Atlanta, where he in part, embraced his lover boy side but in turn, displayed a terrific bent for comedy. Some other recent films that he has featured in include; GbomoGbomo Express and Thy Will Be Done, both available on irokoTV.
Ramsey has won numerous awards for his acting and contributions to the Nollywood movie industry at large. A more recent one would be his Best Actor win at the African Movie Academy Awards in 2010 for his role as a socially awkward fresh graduate in The Figurine, a Kunle Afolayan movie produced in 2009.
He is also the founder of the movie production company, Ramseyfilms, and has spoken about getting behind the camera to direct sometime in the future.
